The best dog breed for lazy people was the very thing I was looking for years ago. I wasn’t necessarily lazy and would love to have been able to run and play with a dog. Unfortunately, I was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis and couldn’t walk very far and could not run at all.
Living alone and not getting out much, I really wanted a dog to keep me company. Animals can fill places inside us that we never knew were empty. Jesus loved the animals. He was born in a stable with animals. He was laid in a manger, which is a feeding trough for animals. He was known as the Lion of Judah, the Lamb of God and the Good Shepard. The Holy Spirit descended to Him in the form of a dove.
Having talked it over with the Lord, I went about getting myself a dog. The arthritis center made arrangements with the SPCA for me to experiment with different breeds to see which I could handle.
The first dog to catch my eye was a huge German Shepard mix. The people at the shelter told me theLargerdogs were a Littlemore laid-back. She seemed to be very gentle at first, but when I tried to walk her, I couldn’t hold onto her leash. She just yanked it right out of my hand.
The next was a terrier mix. He seemed calm enough until something or another (squirrel?) caught his eye and he started barking and jumping forward. I liked his spunk, but he was way too hyper for me.
The really big, muscular dogs were a massive turnoff because they drooled constantly. The small ones were too yappy and barked continuously. However, I finally selected a boxer-like dog. He was gentle and seemed even-tempered. I paid the fees and took him to the Vet.
To my surprise, the Vet told me that a dog needs more than just a swift run outside to relieve itself. They all need a proper amount of exercise. It was then that I believed I had gone through all of that for nothing; because I couldn’t walk for very long and as I said, I certainly couldn’t run. Living in an apartment, I had no fence or dog run. However, the Vet told me there were lots of people who walk dogs and for a relatively minimal fee.
At first it sounded like a good idea, but when I checked into it, I realized that what the Vet considered a small fee was too much for me. Then I got an idea. There were lots of kids in the neighborhood across the street. I posted fliers and within two days I had all of the dog walkers I needed.
Therefore, if you live in a neighborhood with kids, they’ll gladly walk and even run with your dog for just a couple of bucks. The children love dogs anyway and the dog will love the fun. For that kind of exercise, they only need it maybe two or three times a week. So, in view of that, a lazy person who can spare a few dollars a week can have any breed of dog they want, as long as it’s gentle with children.
