Should dogs that attack humans be put down?

my chocolate kiss

My opinion. Yes and No.

It depends. About 90% of Dog attacks are the child or adult at fault. If it is the Family dog attacking the child. The parent instantly blames the dog. Doe he/she stop and think. “I left the child un-attended with the dog. Who’s really at fault. My Child? My dog.”

Let’s look at the beginnings of dog attacks on a family member who is the child:

The child is left un-attended with the dog. “His/She’s reliable, he/She won’t hurt my child.”

The child pulls the dogs tail. Theirs a reaction from the dog. “This is fun.” Child does it again. This time it hurts the dog.

Instincts takes over. Something is hurting the dog. Let’s bite it. The dog turns around and bites the child. Parent comes out. “You naughty dog. Your going to be put down.”

Lets stop and think now. Who does he/she blame. Instantly the dog. Why? Dog’s are lower then we. Dog is always to blame.

Things you should never do with a dog.

*Never take food or things from the dogs mouth.

*NEVER pull on a dogs tail: It is an extension of its back. Would you like a person pulling on your spinal cord. NO.

*Always supervise children.

*Teach kids how to approach a dog and how to handle a dog.

* If a dog is fighting with a small dog, NEVER grab the small dog from the Largerdog, Your only asking to be bitten.

I was bitten once by a dog, He was untrained, Unsocialized and quite aggressive. I told the owner, If it was someone else, they had have the dog put down. But I’m a dog person and I showed them what to do. You see, they treated him like he was the pack leader.

Now look at the other 10% of dog attacks. Showing signs of Aggression, teeth are beared, ears pulled back hair raised. Signs are saying “AGGRESSIVE DOG.”

It’s all in the body language. Which is why people get attacked by dogs. Learn the signs. Make your self lookLargerthen the dog. NEVER eye off the dog, this just causes more aggravation. But there are ways to avoiding the other 10% of dog attacks caused by aggressive dogs and there are ways to avoid dog attacks with the other 90% of dogs.

As a person who shows dogs. It is interesting to see that children belonging to show dog people have been taught how to

*Handle a dog,

*How to approach a dog,

*What to and what not to do with dogs,

*Signs such as body language of the dogs.

These are kids between the age of 3 to 6.

But, the main cause of dog attacks are parents NOT teaching their children how to HANDLE and TREAT a dog. REMEMBER, The dog is a part of YOUR FAMILY. Treat him/her like you would your own family member.
