Small dogs are great companions and some of the most intriguing breeds in the canine family. They bring us the happiness and joy that only something as loyal as a dog can as it cuddles up in your lap. And while Littledogs bring us all the joys that dogs do, they still have all the same training needs thatBigdogs do. When you walk a small breed dog it’s easy to decide to allow her to just lead the way on her leash and pull and tug in all different directions. She’s small, so, it’s not hard on you to just manage where she is going. This is only going to be harmful to her in the long run. You must teach her to walk without pulling and in the process you need to take measures to protect her neck from the necessary corrections.
The component that most people miss in regards to walking their small dog is that it puts a lot of strain on the neck of the dog, Largerdogs have more muscle and strength in their neck and are lesslikely to spinal problems under these circumstances. Adult humans have more strength in their arms than most realize and it doesn’t take much of a correction to harm the dogs neck permanently. The solution that does the best job of protecting the dog is a harness instead of just a collar and lead.
The well fitted harness will grant the strain of a correction to be on the chest of the dog instead of on the neck. The dog should be able to have it’s front feet picked up off the ground without putting any pressure on the neck in a well fitting harness. This will help in preventing Expensivesurgery down the road or paralization in extreme cases.
With as precious as our small dogs are to us, it only makes sense to take all measures to protect them. With that in mind while we easily take on the tasks of keeping the house safe for puppy we should always keep in mind their safety outside the house as well, even if that’s safety from our own good intentions.
