Quick and easy dog food recipes

With the recent tainted pet food scare that has made the nation’s headlines for quite a while and with more and more pets developing food allergies or intolerances to additives, preservatives, artificial flavors and colorings, it makes pretty much sense to begin considering preparing your dog’s meals at home.

Dogs appear to have lost that healthy vigor they once used to have and if you check out veterinary clinics you may be surprised to see how sick and frail man’s best friend has become. Skin allergies were very rare instances in the wild, and now more and more dogs seem to be getting them and more often than not the itching and scratching is due to some allergy to something in their food.

Whether your pet cannot tolerate commercial pet food, has a sensitive stomach or you just simply want to get your dog back to a healthier diet here are some quick and easy dog recipes your dog will surely enjoy:

APPETIZER

Deliscious Taste of liver

1/2 LB liver

1 cup oatmeal

1 cup flour

2 eggs

Using a blender blend all the ingredients together. Then bake at 350* until an inserted knife comes clean. Cut into tiny bite sizes.

These tasteful bits make great training rewards. Offer them when your pooch really makes you happy!

MAIN COURSE

Lamb and rice delight

1 Lb ground lamb

1 cup brown rice

Some broccoli florets

2 potatoes (cubed)

2 carrots (sliced)

Brown the ground lamb in a pan making sure to drain the grease away as it comes out. Add broccoli, potatoes, sliced carrots. In a crock pot boil water, add all the ingredients included the rice. Once rice is tender, serve.

This meal is pretty bland and easy on the pet’s digestive system. Meat and vegetables provide a good amount of vitamins and minerals. The meat instead is a good source of protein and makes the dish particularly palatable.

DESSERT

PB & Yogurt frozen delights

32 ounce vanilla yogurt

1 cup peanut butter

Melt peanut butter in microwave, mix yogurt in and place mixture into ice cube container. Freeze and offer as a tasty treat.

This is great for the summer, allowing your pet to cool off in a tasty way!

IMPORTANT!

If you are planning to permanently switch your dog to a home made diet make sure you consult your vet first. Adhere to your vet’s recommendations on offering vitamins and/or supplements to ensure the diet is nutritionally balanced. Do not swith your dogs to new diets abruptly rather do it gradually, so your dog’s gastro-intestinal system has some time to adjust.

COOKING FOR FIDO MAY BE FUN!

You may ultimately find that cooking for your dog can be very simple and fun as well. Unlike kids, dogs rarely turn up their nose away from foods, actually they'll even appreciate your left over broccoli!

Cooking for dogs can be pretty rewarding as well, whatever you cook it will most likely be greatly appreciated and the dog may very well look up at you and with its mouth watering ask for more!
