Barack Obama fulfills his promise to Sasha and Malia. They are now the proud owners of Bo, a beautiful black and white, six month old Portugeuse Water Dog. Bo originated from a breeder in Boyd, Texas. His given name was Amigos New Hope. He was a litter mate of Senator Edward Kennedy’s dog, Cappy.

PWD’s can be taught how to fetch the ball very well. The breed is not well known for this kind of training.
Goj, a 3 1/2 year old male Portuguese Water Dog, brings the ball back, drops it by his owner’s feet, and even puts it in her hand. The Portuguese Water Dog can be trained to fetch very well!

Brickyard Park is in Mill Valley, California. It adjoins the San Francisco Bay. A century ago there was a brick factory there. Barges would come and get the bricks. There are remnants of tracks that go into the bay to get to the barge. The water here’s very shallow. It is a public park with a young children’s play structure. It is an excellent place to visit or initiate a kayaking journey. Here is more information:
He’s very scared of boats. Though this Portuguese Water Dog adores the water he’s not a great swimmer, and seems scared to be in the water over his head. He is wearing a flotation device in case he falls in and sinks.
I had owned a Black Lab before, so I wanted a huge dog. My husband is allergic to animals, so he wanted a Poodle, same as his parents had. I pictured us dealing with monthly grooming bills. We got so far as to look at a few Poodle pups, but at $1250, I decided to look aTiny farther.
What I found surprised me. The breed that kept coming up in my research was the Labradoodle. A cross between a Labrador Retriever and a Poodle, the Labradoodle has many advantages. Both breeds are highly intelligent, both are friendly, and both are great family dogs. The advantage to crossing the two is that the low dander of the Poodle seems to take dominance and the result is an allergy friendly dog, usually with the best traits of both breeds. I state usually, because hip dysplasia is an ailment common to both breeds and that could be an inherent weakness for the animal. Doodle pups are tested for both that ailment and for eye diseases that are common to both breeds.
Other facts about the Labradoodle, or LD, that surprised me were that though they were just recently introduced to America, Australians have been breeding and refining the breed since the 70s. The difference between an American LD and an Australian one is that the Australians used several breeds of dogs in their program.
